Psia Kość! Ponad 800 kilogramów dobra dla potrzebujących zwierząt

(KOPIUJ 1)

The University of Lodz's annual November donation collection for the Animal Shelter in Lodz has come to an end. Once again, members of the University of Lodz community have joined forces to share their good fortune with pets in need. And it was worth it. 838 kilogrammes of food have just been delivered to the animals from Marmurowa Street.

Although it is not about records, this result is very gratifying, because we are aware of how much support the shelter needs. This amount of food is enough to feed animals from the shelter for about 3 days.

As every year, the whole UL community got involved in the campaign – students and staff of the University of Lodz, as well as students and staff of the University of Lodz Kindergarten, the Righteous Among the Nations State Secondary School of the University of Lodz and British International School of the University of Lodz

We would like to thank everyone who has contributed.

Maczeta visits University of Lodz and encourages to adopt animals

In mid-November, we invited representatives of the shelter together with their shaggy pet – "Heros" called "Maczeta". The story of this 10-year-old dog can be found on the website of the animal shelter

In the presence of the media, the Rector of the University of Lodz, Prof. Elżbieta Żądzińska, and the director of the Animal Shelter in Lodz, encouraged people to participate in the “Psia Kość!” campaign. The main purpose of the meeting, however, was to draw attention to the needs of the shelter, as well as the adoption of animals living there. Providing a responsible home for homeless animals is the best form of support.

I can confirm it from my own experience, as I have two such adopted pets. I have a mutt and a cat and they always return the favour wholeheartedly.

says the UL Rector.

There are currently 280 dogs and 130 cats in the Animal Shelter in Lodz. The daily feed requirement for them is up to 300 kg. What is most needed?

Good quality pet food, i.e. food with a high meat content, is the best gift for the animals from the shelter, apart from a new, responsible home, of course. The better the quality of the food, the healthier and happier the animals. It's not quite true that a dog or a cat in a shelter will eat anything. Therefore, let us count on quality rather than quantity.

appeals Marta Olesińska, director of the Animal Shelter in Lodz.

Apart from food, blankets and towels can also be brought. We should also mention what shouldn’t be donated.

The shelter does not accept duvets, pillows, mattresses and pieces of clothing. They can be even dangerous for pets, as e.g. biting into a pillow can end up with the pet swallowing its content, which can cause huge problems. Only straw, which does not absorb moisture, is put into the kennels, not textiles. We also ask people to bring metal rather than plastic bowls, as the latter quickly become chew toys.

explains Marta Olesinska.

You can check the shelter's current needs on its website.

University of Lodz for animals in need

"Psia Kość!" at the University of Lodz is the November donation collection for the Animal Shelter in Lodz. University of Lodz, as a socially responsible university, has been supporting pets for many years. During the eleven editions, we have collected about 5 tons of food, as well as blankets, medicines, toys and accessories needed by dogs and cats. They were all donated to the Animal Shelter in Lodz.
